Psychtrix Initiative Limited, in collaboration with Ipro Youth Empowerment Vile (IYEV), successfully delivered a free SPSS data analysis training aimed at strengthening quantitative research capacity among postgraduate students in Kampala. The programme was conducted in Kansanga, close to Kampala International University, across two training cycles: 5 June – 6 July and 10 July – 11 August.

Two Batches, Targeted Impact
The training was organized into two separate one-month cohorts, each comprising 10–12 participants. Overall, more than twenty learners benefitted from the programme. Participants were predominantly Master’s students, with a smaller representation of PhD candidates, reflecting the initiative’s focus on supporting dissertation- and thesis-driven research.
The modest class size enabled close supervision, continuous practice, and individualized feedback throughout the sessions.
Practical Beginner–Intermediate SPSS Coverage
Structured as a Beginner/Intermediate-level course, the training emphasized hands-on learning and real research application. Participants were guided through the full data analysis workflow in SPSS, including:
- Data entry, variable definition, and coding
- Data cleaning and screening procedures
- Descriptive statistics and visual summaries
- Bivariate Pearson correlation
- Multiple correlation analysis
- Multiple regression analysis
- Independent samples t-test
- One-way ANOVA
Each topic was reinforced with practical exercises using realistic datasets aligned with postgraduate research requirements.
Academic Leadership and Facilitation
A key highlight of the programme was the academic support provided by Associate Professor Enoch Oladunmoye of the Department of Applied Psychology, Kampala International University, who graced the training sessions. His contributions added methodological rigor, conceptual clarity, and applied insight, significantly enriching the learning experience for participants.
Certification and Skills Development
At the end of each one-month training cycle, participants who completed the programme were awarded certificates, acknowledging their competence in SPSS-based quantitative analysis. More importantly, the training enhanced participants’ confidence in independently analyzing data, interpreting statistical outputs correctly, and reporting results in line with academic standards.
Strengthening Research Capacity
This initiative underscores Psychtrix Initiative Limited’s commitment—working alongside IYEV—to expanding access to high-quality, practical research training. By offering the programme free of charge and situating it within an accessible academic hub, the organizers reduced barriers to skills development while contributing to a stronger postgraduate research ecosystem in Uganda.
Following the successful completion of both cohorts, plans are underway to continue similar capacity-building programmes in data analysis, psychometrics, and advanced research methods.
